Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a public speaking event organizer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency a website that includes videos and comments on depictions of women's roles in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes of women as they are depicted in pop media. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in the field of political and social thought from York University. As a public speaker, she's extremely sought-after and has spoken at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years, Sarkeesian was fascinated by the issue of gender identity as well as feminist ideas. While still at school in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. She had a plan to launch a web series examining the gender roles in video games and found herself the target of an online harassment campaign. However, the attacks did not dissuade her.
