Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a public speaking event organizer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency a website that includes videos and comments on depictions of women's roles in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. She is the creator and director of executive for Feminist Frequency A scholarly, non-profit site that examines the representation of women in popular media narratives. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes of women as they are depicted in pop media. Additionally, she works to raise awareness about online harassment targeted towards women as well as the marginalized communities of people. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in the field of political and social thought from York University. As a public speaker, she's extremely sought-after and has spoken at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years, Sarkeesian was fascinated by the issue of gender identity as well as feminist ideas. While still at school in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. She had a plan to launch a web series examining the gender roles in video games and found herself the target of an online harassment campaign. However, the attacks did not dissuade her. The experience only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. Numerous awards have been given to her in recognition of all of the contribution she has contributed to.
